One thing’s for sure: we need to consume protein. It plays a role in metabolism, immune response, growth and tissue repair. It also supports our immune system, acts as an energy source and helps store and transport nutrients.

In short, there’s not a single part of the body that isn’t reliant on protein to function.

But there are a lot of open questions about how much protein we need and where that protein should come from.

Why the confusion?

The WHO recommends consuming 0.83 g of protein per kilogram of weight each day. That’s about 0.36 g per pound of body weight. 

For someone who weighs 10 stone, that’s 50.4 g of protein per day. Simple… except it’s not.
